Mirziyoyev sets goal of doubling Uzbekistan's GDP by 2030

TASHKENT. July 14 (Interfax) - Uzbekistan has tangible opportunities to double its GDP by 2030, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in his inaugural speech on Friday.

"We have set an ambitious target to raise our GDP to $160 billion by 2030. Of course, this won't be easy to accomplish. However, we have accurate calculations and real opportunities on this path. Our natural and labor resources, our intellectual and spiritual potential, and our experience are sufficient to achieve this objective," Mirziyoyev said in his speech broadcast live on national television.

Uzbekistan has set strategic goals for the next seven years, which envision radical changes in the economy, involving in particular the implementation of green economy and green energy principles, Mirziyoyev said.

"Investments in our economy will increase several times. We shouldn't remain a country living exclusively off agribusiness. We need to become a country with a highly developed industry," he said.

Mirziyoyev was reelected president of Uzbekistan in an early election on July 9. His inauguration ceremony took place on Friday. The recent presidential election was the first to take place after Uzbekistan adopted a constitutional amendment increasing the presidential term from five to seven years.
