Ukrainian corn harvest expected to fall to 25 mln tonnes this agricultural year

MOSCOW. July 14 (Interfax) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture has raised its forecast for Ukraine's corn harvest in the 2023/2024 agricultural year (July to June) to 25 million tonnes from the 24.5 million tonnes projected in June, and its forecast for the country's corn exports to 19.5 million tonnes from 19 million tonnes.

However, the overall forecast for Ukraine's feed grain exports in the current agricultural year was lowered to 21.33 million tonnes from 21.53 million tonnes, as the harvest forecast was reduced to 31.47 million tonnes from 31.67 million tonnes.

The forecasts for wheat production and exports were left unchanged at 17.5 million tonnes and 10.5 million tonnes, respectively.

In its updated forecast, the USDA estimated that Ukraine's wheat harvest fell to 21.5 million tonnes in the 2022/2023 agricultural year from 33.01 million tonnes a year earlier, while exports dropped to 16.8 million tonnes from 18.84 million tonnes and carryover reserves shrank to 1.63 million tonnes from 5.27 million tonnes.

Ukraine's feed grain harvest and exports dropped to 33.93 million tonnes and 30.75 million tonnes, respectively, in the 2022/2023 agricultural year from 53.51 million tonnes and 32.93 million tonnes a year earlier, the USDA estimated. Carryover reserves fell to 2.16 million tonnes from 8.67 million tonnes.

The corn harvest fell to 27 million tonnes from 42.13 million tonnes, but exports rose to 28 million tonnes from 26.98 million tonnes, while carryover reserves shrank to 1.39 million tonnes from 7.59 million tonnes.
