Ukraine harvests 2.2 mln tonnes of grain

MOSCOW. July 14 (Interfax) - Farmers in 22 regions of Ukraine harvested early grain and leguminous crops from an area of 643,800 thousand hectares, threshing 2.157 million tonnes of grain with a yield of 33.5 centners per hectare, Ukrainian media reported, citing a statement from the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.

Odessa and Nikolaev regions led in terms of threshing rates, with 746,000 and 213,000 tonnes of grain, respectively.

In total, to date, barley was harvested from 352,400 hectares (24.6%) in Ukraine; 1.3 million tonnes have been harvested, yielding 37.2 centners per hectare. Wheat was harvested from 211,800 hectares (4.7%), with a yield of 36.8 centners per hectare; 778,700 tonnes were harvested in total. Peas were harvested from 45,000 hectares (31.3%), with a yield of 20.8 centners per hectare; 93,700 tonnes were harvested.

Farms in 12 regions have started harvesting winter rapeseed: 329,500 tonnes were collected with a yield of 20.8 centners per hectare on an area of 158,000 hectares (11.5%).

As reported, winter wheat crops this season reached 4.166 million hectares (834,000 fewer hectares than in the prior year), winter barley reached 536,000 hectares (255,000 fewer hectares), and rapeseed reached 1.374 million hectares (110 thousand more hectares than last year).
