Ukraine has 944 registered export companies, half entitled to export to EU - agency

MOSCOW. July 11 (Interfax) - There were 944 export companies registered in Ukraine as of July 5, including 427 firms authorized to export products to the European Union, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.

In particular, Ukraine has 361 companies exporting meat and meat products, 225 milk and dairy products, 105 fish and fish products, 88 honey and beekeeping products, 86 eggs and egg products, 49 chilled snails and products from them, and 30 facilities for making other products of animal origin, it said.

Manufacturers of animal-origin products make up the majority among the 427 companies entitled to export to the EU countries. These include exporters of honey (74 companies), down and feathers (67), raw hides (47), dairy products (46), and technical casein (41).

Under the Ukrainian law on basic principles and requirements for food safety, "facilities for producing food products intended for export from Ukraine shall be endorsed by a local body of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, in line with the requirements of the destination country," the ministry said.

All the necessary information on exporting companies is available in the registers of approved export facilities of food products and approved export facilities of non-edible products of animal origin, as well as the register of food exporters.
