Inflation in Ukraine quickens to 0.8% in June, annual figure down to 12.8%

MOSCOW. July 10 (Interfax) - Inflation in Ukraine rose to 0.8% in June from 0.5% in May and 0.2% in April, Ukrainian media reported, citing the State Statistics Service.

Annual inflation slowed to 12.3% on June from 5.3% in May, 17.9% in April, 21.3% in March, 24.9% in February and 26.6% in December. Prices rose 3.1% in June 2022.

Ukraine had core deflation of 0.1% in June 2023 compared with inflation of 0.3% in May and 0.5% in April.

Core inflation was 1.6% in June 2022, and slowed to 14.0% in annual terms in June 2023, from 15.9% in May, 17.2% in April, 20.1% in March, 22.7% in February and 22.6% in December.

Headline inflation was 4.6% and core inflation 3.2% in the year to date.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 0.1% in price in June. Meat and meat product went up the most, by 1.9%. Prices rose 0.2-1% for vegetables, dairy products, non-alcoholic beverages, fish and fish products and bread, but fell 0.5-4.1% for eggs, rice, cereal products, sunflower oil, fruits, salo, milk and cheeses.

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco prices went up 0.8%, including tobacco products - 1.5% and alcoholic beverages - 0.2%.

Clothing and footwear fell 3% in price, including clothing - 3.1% and footwear - 3%.

Utility charges rose 11.9%, due mainly to a 1.7-fold increase for electricity.

Transport fares fell 0.8% due to a 2% reduction in the cost of fuels and lubricants. Rail fares rose 3.1%.

Communications charges went up 0.5% as local telephone rates went up 13.8%.
