Matviyenko confident about developing constructive parliamentary cooperation with China

BEIJING. July 10 (Interfax) - The invitation of a Russian parliamentary delegation to China is a sign of Beijing's determination to intensify cooperation with Russia, Russian Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko said.

A delegation of the Russian Federal Assembly is currently on a visit to China at the invitation of Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

"The renewed composition of the National People's Congress has been working for only a few months, but we've felt the determination to intensify cooperation from your attitude and your invitation [for us] to visit China. I am sure that we will have very good relations and constructive cooperation both with you and the newly-convoked members," Matviyenko said at a meeting with Zhao.

Matviyenko reaffirmed the Federation Council's determination to continue inter-parliamentary interaction between Russia and China, and said the Russian and Chinese legislatures could be proud of their level of their cooperation. "As our leaders have noted, comprehensive the Russian-Chinese partnership has reached the highest level in its history and is continuing to develop consistently regardless of the turbulence in the world," she said.

The Russian public welcomed the fact that Chinese President Xi Jinping traveled to Russia on his first foreign state visit after reelection. "In my view, this has yet again confirmed Beijing's strategic choice in favor of continuing to develop and advance mutually beneficial cooperation and interaction with Russia," she said.
