TASHKENT. July 10 (Interfax) - Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev won the early presidential election on Sunday with 87.5% of the vote, Uzbek Central Elections Commission Chairman Zainiddin Nizomhojayev said.

"According to the preliminary information, 13,625,055 people, or 87.5% of all voters who came to polls, voted for Mirziyoyev," Nizomhojayev said at a press briefing on Monday.

Mirziyoyev is thereby elected head of state, consistent with Article 35 of the Law on Presidential Election in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Over 19.5 million voters were registered for the presidential election in Uzbekistan, and 15,671,405 of them cast their ballots. More than 800,000 voters, including about 188,000 abroad, voted ahead of time, between June 28 and July 5.

Four candidates, including incumbent President Mirziyoyev nominated by the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople - Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and backed by the Democratic Party Milliy Tiklanish (National Revival), stood in the election.

The People's Democratic Party nominated its leader, Ulugbek Inoyatov. The Ecological Party nominated its chairman, Abdushukur Khamzayev, and the Social Democratic Party Adolat (Justice) nominated First Deputy Chairman of the Uzbek Supreme Court Robakhon Makhmudova.

The Central Elections Commission said, quoting preliminary information, that the People's Democratic Party candidate gained 649,116 votes (4.2%), the Adolat candidate got 693,634 votes (4.43%), and the Ecological Party candidate won 585,714 votes (3.74%).

The Central Elections Commission said the final results of the July 9 election would be declared within ten days.

In the previous presidential election of October 24, 2021, Mirzoyoyev, nominated by the Liberal Democratic Party, gained 80.12% of the vote.

This is the first presidential election held in Uzbekistan after the endorsement of constitutional amendments, which extend the presidential term of office from five to seven years. The constitutional law allows incumbent President Mirziyoyev, who is serving his second term, to run for reelection.
