Brazil receives Belarus' note of intention to join BRICS - Foreign Ministry

MINSK. July 7 (Interfax) - Belarus intends to become a BRICS member and has submitted a relevant note with Brazil, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

"Belarusian Ambassador to Brazil Sergei Lukashevich has met with Brazil's Deputy Foreign Minister in charge of relations with Belarus. Maria Luisa Escorel de Moraes. During the meeting the Brazilian side was given a note confirming Belarus' intentions to become a full member of the BRICS [group]," the press service said in a statement.

"Special attention was given to strengthening the cooperation between Belarus and Brazil in the framework of multilateral diplomacy, the countries noted their readiness to step up their political, trade and economic interaction," the statement said.

"The sides discussed the importance of potassium fertilizer exports to the Brazilian market and the prospects of Belarusian participation in Brazilian state programs for private farmers and family farms," it said.
