Atyrau refinery resumes producing petroleum products following shutdown because of power failure

ATYRAU. July 7 (Interfax) - Atyrau Oil Refinery LLP (ANPZ), part of KazMunayGas, has resumed operations following a power failure at the Mangystau Nuclear Power Plant LLP, Atyrau Refinery's press service said in a statement.

"Production of petroleum products at ANPZ LLP resumed on July 6 following an emergency shutdown of the plant, which occurred on July 3, resulting from a complete external power failure owing to a drawdown at the first power unit of the Mangystau NPP. The plant is currently operating on schedule," the press service said.

According to the press service, all technological units at the plant have been brought up to regular operation, with the exception of the delayed coking unit (DCU), where measures are underway to clean equipment that has been clogged owing to the emergency shutdown.

"The DCU is designed to produce crude coke and does not affect the volume of oil refining and the output of other petroleum products. The DCU should be restarted before July 9," according to the press service.

Atyrau Oil Refinery LLP ceased operations on the evening of July 3 owing to the power failure at the Mangystau NPP, which supplies the region's industries and households with electricity, heat, and water.
