Finland extends travel restrictions for Russian citizens

HELSINKI. July 6 (Interfax) - Non-essential travel by Russian citizens to Finland and through that country to the rest of the Schengen zone will remain restricted until further notice, the press service for the Finnish Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

The relevant decree was adopted by the government on Thursday and will take effect on Monday, July 10. "At the same time, restrictions will be tightened for business travelers, property owners and students," the statement said.

Business travelers will only be allowed to travel to Finland in the future, which means transit to other countries will be prohibited, the press service said. Additionally, business travelers will have to have a good reason for a personal visit to the country. Property owners are also required to have a reason for personal presence.

The Finnish Foreign Ministry noted that Russian students will only be allowed to participate in the programs leading to a degree or studies completed as part of a degree (e.g. exchange studies), and not, for example, in folk high schools.
