CBR prepared to challenge in foreign courts freezing of Russia's int'l reserves; complications with lawyers exist - Nabiullina

MOSCOW. July 6 (Interfax) - The Central Bank of Russia (CBR) is prepared to challenge in foreign courts the freezing of the Russian Federation's international reserves, though there are complications in arranging cooperation with lawyers because of existing restrictions, Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina said at a briefing on Thursday during the Financial Congress of the Bank of Russia.

"We have nearly everything prepared legally. We are having complications with arranging cooperation with lawyers who could defend our interests in foreign courts, because there are restrictions regarding this," Nabiullina said at the briefing.

When answering a similar question in May, Official Secretary and Central Bank Deputy Governor Alexei Guznov noted that, "This does not concern one lawsuit, rather, it concerns lawsuits, given that these are probably different jurisdictions; and the subject is really under review."
