No specific problems in Russia's banking sector, task is to build new infrastructure - Gref

ST. PETERSBURG. July 6 (Interfax) - The Russian banking sector has solved its main problems, and there are no specific risks in the sector now, Herman Gref, President and Chairman of the Board of Sberbank , said.

"I don't see any specific risks today. There is no liquidity risk," Gref told reporters on the sidelines of the Financial Congress of the Bank of Russia in St. Petersburg.

He recalled that banks that had problems with capital solved them with the help of an easing of regulation. "We had no problems with capital; for us it is irrelevant," the head of Sberbank said.

He added that banks have already resolved their main issues. "We have taken care of all the main risks to date. The task is probably not to hedge some specific risks, but to build a new infrastructure," Gref said.

"The task before us now is to build an alternative system of everything, in fact, on an international level, everything related to markets, payment systems, and so on. This is quite a challenge, and not a risk; this is a big challenge that we face and with which we are actively engaged," he noted.

In his opinion, this task will be resolved one way or another.
