FAO to provide Ukrainian farmers with seeds for autumn sowing campaign

MOSCOW. July 6 (Interfax) - The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), with financial support from the Japanese and Norwegian governments, has announced launching a program of support for small farmers during the upcoming autumn sowing campaign, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.

Under the program, farmers will have an opportunity to receive 2 tonnes of seeds of winter crops enough to sow 10 hectares of farmland. Applicants can choose one of the two winter crops: wheat or barley.

Eligible for the program are only individual entrepreneurs or individuals owning or renting farmlands from 5 to 100 hectares in size in the nine regions worst affected by the crisis, i.e. the Kiev-controlled parts of the Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporozhye regions, as well as the Sumy, Chernigov, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Nikolayev, and Odessa regions.

Applications for joining the program shall be accepted through the State Agrarian Register until July 20, 2023.
