Power unit at Mangistau Atomic Energy Complex in Kazakhstan to go back into operation July 7 - government

ASTANA. July 5 (Interfax) - Repairs at the power generation unit of Kazakhstan's Mangistau Atomic Energy Complex which malfunctioned on July 3 have nearly been completed and it will be returned to full operation on July 7, the government's press service said in a statement on Wednesday.

MAEK LLP owns and operates heat and power plants that supply electricity and heat energy to consumers in the Mangistau and Atyrau region.

Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov visited Mangistau Atomic Energy Complex to check the progress of the repairs, which are being carried out on schedule. The power generation unit that failed earlier will be returned to full operation on July 7, according to the press service.

The wear of the power generation equipment, which was put into operation in the 1960-90s, is over 80%, according to the statement.

The local authorities have allocated 2.6 billion tenge to finance the modernization of the power generation equipment at Mangistau Atomic Energy Complex.
