Russian, Syrian FMs discuss situation in Syria - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. July 4 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad have exchanged views on pressing regional affairs and the situation in Syria in a phone call, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.

"The situation inside and around Syria was discussed in detail. Emphasis was put on bilateral coordination at the United Nations," the statement said.

Lavrov noted "the importance of a decision made this May to reinstate Syria in the League of Arab States and the positive influence of this event on the processes in the Middle East and North Africa," it said.

Speaking on behalf of the Syrian administration, Mekdad "reaffirmed support for Russia's special military operation in Ukraine," the statement said.

The phone call was initiated by the Syrian side.
