Tengizchevroil, NCOC switch to isolated power supply owing to drawdown at Mangystau NPP

ASTANA. July 3 (Interfax) - The oil companies Tengizchevroil (TCO), operator of the Tengiz field, and North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC), operator of the Kashagan field, have switched to an isolated power supply owing to a sudden power drawdown at the Mangystau Nuclear Power Plant, the JSC Atyrau Zharyk power transmission company said in a statement.

"Owing to the emergency shutdown of power unit No. 1 from the actions of the automation panel at the Mangystau NPP, the Mangystau Region [in western Kazakhstan] has switched to isolated operation. Because of a drawdown in power frequency, TCO, NCOC, and Atyrau CHP were allocated to isolated operation," JSC Atyrau Zharyk said.

According to the energy transmission company, the left-bank section of the city and partially the right-bank area are completely without power in Atyrau at this time.

"The personnel of KEGOC [the system operator] are currently investigating the reasons for the shutdown," according to the statement.

The Mangystau Nuclear Power Plant supplies manufacturing industries and households of the region with electricity, heat, and water.
