Ukrainian govt extends regulation of prices for certain staple foods

MOSCOW. July 3 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government has extended government regulation of prices for certain types of staple food products during martial law and three months after its termination or cancellation.

The government directive 'On the regulation of prices for certain types of food products and guarantees of stable work of food producers during martial law' took effect on June 30, 2023.

"During the specified period, prices will be regulated by setting a maximum level of retail markup (margin) for a limited list of food products at 10%," Ukrainian media quoted the State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service as saying on its website.

The markup limit shall be applied to top-grade wheat flour, certain types of 2.5% fat pasteurized milk, C1 category eggs, chicken, refined sunflower oil, and certain types of bread.

To eliminate excessive government pressure on business, the government has abolished the procedure that required that businesses declare changes in retail prices for staple foods and anti-epidemic products.
