Modi in phone call with Putin calls for diplomatic settlement of Ukraine issue - Indian Foreign Ministry

NEW DELHI. June 30 (Interfax) - The Ukraine crisis needs to be resolved by diplomatic means, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"While discussing the situation in Ukraine, PM reiterated his call for dialogue and diplomacy," India's Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

The leaders also talked about the development of Indian-Russian relations and the desire to further consolidate the strategic partnership between the two countries. Modi and Putin also exchanged views on regional and global issues of interest to both countries.

The Kremlin's press service said earlier on Friday that there was a telephone conversation between Putin and Modi at the Indian side's initiative.
