Zelensky meets with former U.S. Vice President Pence in Kiev

MOSCOW. June 30 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky met in Kiev with former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who has recently announced plans to run in the 2024 presidential elections.

At the meeting, Zelensky noted the extremely important and strong support being extended to Ukraine by the American people, President Joe Biden, the Congress and both parties, Ukrainian media said, citing the Ukrainian president's press service.

"This support is not only with weapons, which is the main priority today. The United States has been providing us with financial assistance and humanitarian and political support. We appreciate it that both major U.S. parties - the Republicans Party and the Democratic Party - remain united in their support for Ukraine. And, of course, we feel strong support from the people of the United States," Zelensky said.

The president highlighted the "unprecedented" overall amount of support provided, which has reached $43.1 billion. He also thanked Pence for his "loud voice" in support of Ukraine within the U.S. Republican Party.

Zelensky also shared his expectations from the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius, adding that partners should demonstrate their determination and give Ukraine certainty about its future membership in the alliance.

"The United States' support is vital to our struggle for freedom. It is the support of all Americans, each American family, all public forces, the Congress - both parties, both houses. And, of course, it is the support of President of the United States Joe Biden. I thank all of you for this support," Zelensky said on social media on Thursday evening.
