MAKS 2023 aerospace show in Russia cancelled, to be held in 2024 and 2025 - organizers

MOSCOW. June 30 (Interfax) - The MAKS 2023 International Aerospace Show in Russia has been moved to next year, and will also take place in 2025, the event's organizers said in an official statement.

"Instead of 2023, the international aerospace show has been scheduled for 2024. MAKS will take place in 2025 as well. The venue of the largest aerospace industry event in the Eurasian space remains unchanged - it is the town of Zhukovsky in the Moscow region," the statement said.

"As part of preparations for holding the aerospace shows, the Aviasalon company continues to work with current and prospective MAKS participants and exhibitors, including from foreign companies representing friendly countries," the statement, published on the MAKS website on Friday, said.

"This is the decision that has been made. First and foremost, it is a matter of security," honorary president of the MAKS aerospace show, test-pilot and Hero of Russia Magomed Tolboyev told Interfax on Friday when commenting on the postponement.

The MAKS 2023 show was initially expected to take place from July 25 to July 30 this year.

Informed sources said in May that this year's MAKS show would be moved to 2024 or would be held in another format.

The MAKS International Aerospace Show has been held in Russia since 1993.

It is a biennial event hosted by the exhibition center that was opened on the grounds of the Gromov Flight Research Institute's airfield in the town of Zhukovsky outside Moscow.

"For more than 30 years, this aerospace show has been a key international exhibition platform demonstrating the achievements of the world's aircraft and space industry. It was this venue in Zhukovsky where the best Russian civilian and military aircraft made their world debuts, and where the latest foreign aircraft were first displayed in Russia," the MAKS website says.

With more than 42 hectares of exhibition grounds, MAKS brings together more than 570,000 participants and guests, the website says.

The Sukhoi company, part of Rostec, presented its Su-75 Checkmate fifth-generation light single-engine fighter jet at the MAKS aerospace show in July 2021.
