Russia, Mozambique confirm resource exploration cooperation program for 2023-2026

MOSCOW. June 30 (Interfax) - Russia and Mozambique have approved a medium-term program for cooperation in geological exploration for mineral resources for 2023-2026, the Federal Mineral Resources Agency (Rosnedra) reported.

Representatives of the geological services of Russia and Mozambique held an expanded meeting on Thursday. The parties presented their main lines of work in order to map out the future trajectory of cooperation, the agency said.

They discussed "the development of cooperation in the area of geology and mineral resources, issues concerning geological surveys, exploration and development of various types of mineral resources, as well as the possibility of conducting laboratory and analytical studies," the agency said.

Experts from both countries also agreed on a draft memorandum of understanding between Rosnedra and Mozambique's National Mining Institute that is intended to "lay the legal foundation for cooperation, as well as establish mechanisms for its implementation in the form of a working group," Rosnedra head Yevgeny Petrov said.

The memorandum is scheduled to be signed at the upcoming Russia-Africa economic and humanitarian forum in St. Petersburg.

"The next stage in the development of cooperation will be to hold the first meeting of the working group for implementing the memorandum," Rosnedra said.
