OSCE Mission to Moldova mandate extended until yearend

CHISINAU. June 29 (Interfax) - The mandate of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Moldova has been extended until the end of 2023.

"Consensus on extension of the OSCE Moldova mandate has been reached!" OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and North Macedonian Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said on social media, adding that the decision to extend the mandate was taken at a special session of the OSCE Permanent Council on Thursday by the votes of all of the 57 member states.

Previously, a number of media outlets reported that the mission could halt its operation due to the lack of agreement of a number of member countries, in particular, Russia, which cited the lack of progress in the Transdniestrian conflict settlement because of Moldova's stance over the past 30 years.

The decision on extending the OSCE Mission's term in Moldova requires unanimous support of all member states of the Organization.
