Ukraine terminates agreement on protection of state secrets with Belarus

MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada has denounced a Ukrainian-Belarusian agreement on the mutual protection of state secrets, Ukrainian media have reported with reference to parliamentarian Irina Gerashchenko.

An explanatory note to the bill says the reason behind the decision is Belarus's support for Russia. "Defense and security cooperation with that country is not considered reasonable," it says.

Ukraine and Belarus signed the agreement on the mutual protection of state secrets in Kiev on February 19, 2004. The Verkhovna Rada ratified it on October 19, 2005.
