Ukraine's Izmail port to increase cargo handling capacity to 900,000 tonnes per year

MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax) - The Council of the Sea Port of Izmail has supported a project to expand the existing capacity of the enterprise in order to increase cargo handling up to 900,000 tonnes per year, the Ukrainian media reported, citing a message of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority on social media.

The Izmail Sea Port Council heard a report delivered by Alexander Istomin, the head of the administration of the Sea Port of Izmail, regarding the volume of cargo handling for the first five months of 2023 at a meeting at the sea port of Izmail on Tuesday, the statement said. Following this, the council unanimously supported an initiative to build multimodal terminals for transshipment of general, bulk and liquid cargo in order to increase the existing capacity of the enterprise.

As reported, the Izmail port has handled 9 million tonnes of cargo for almost six months of this year. At the same time, there is a constantly growing queue of freight carriages carrying grain for unloading towards the port of Izmail. Ukrainian Railways has recently said at a meeting that it is exploring the possibility of improving the throughput capacity of the Izmail rail station towards Artsiz and Belgorod-Dnestrovsky in order to improve the handling of grain cargo.
