Switzerland follows EU in imposing restrictions on more individuals, entities as part of Russia sanctions

BERLIN. June 28 (Interfax) - The Swiss government has followed the European Union in imposing restrictive measures on individuals and legal entities endorsed as part of the 11th package of European sanctions on Russia, and a decision on other measures is pending until the end of August, the government said in a statement on its website on Wednesday.

"The Federal Council was informed on June 28 that the [Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research] EAER, the government department responsible for sanctions, has expanded the sanctions listings concerning Russia," it said.

The decision applies only to the EU sanctions on individuals and entities endorsed earlier in June. In Switzerland, these measures will come into effect at 6:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

The Federal Council is expected to decide by the end of August whether to adopt the other measures introduced by the EU as part of the 11th package.

The EU adopted the 11th sanctions package on June 23.
