NEFCO to start rebuilding critical infrastructure in Kiev region soon

MOSCOW. June 28 (Interfax) - Twelve territorial communities in the Kiev region are conducting technical design and procuring contractor services for critical infrastructure reconstruction projects supported by the European Union and the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO).

"In December 2022, the European Union and Nefco announced an initiative for the reconstruction and repair of critical municipal infrastructure in Ukraine," Ukrainian media quoted NEFCO as saying in a statement.

"Currently, initial activities are ongoing in 12 communities, including the technical design of the projects and procurement of contractors with support from NEFCO. Several tenders are currently under evaluation, and initial construction work is expected to start soon," it said.

The reconstruction program has received funding in the amount of 50 million euros to rebuild and repair infrastructure facilities in a number of communities in the Kiev region.

The work to be done includes repairs and upgrading of heating, wastewater treatment, and water supply systems, with 245,000 Ukrainians expected to benefit from the projects.

Apart from NEFCO, technical assistance in project implementation has been provided to municipalities by its contracted consultants, i.e. CES-Clean Energy Solutions in association with iC Consoulenten, as well as Urban Technology Alliance (UTA).

NEFCO is an international financial institution funding the expansion of Nordic green solutions on global markets. It was founded in 1990 by Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. In Ukraine, it has implemented projects in over 100 municipalities.

Apart from the critical infrastructure reconstruction project, NEFCO is currently managing five other programs in Ukraine financed by the EU, aimed at modernizing water supply systems, implementing energy-efficiency measures in public buildings and street lighting networks, as well as constructing reconstructing, and renovating public premises to accommodate internally displaced persons.
