Rosatom reckons nine container ships needed for transit via Northern Sea Route

ST. PETERSBURG. June 28 (Interfax) - Rosatom Group believes nine container ships need to be built by 2030 for transit cargo shipments along the Northern Sea Route (NSR), the state company's deputy CEO and head of its NSR department, Vyacheslav Ruksha said in a presentation.

"There are at least 5,000-9,000 containers per vessel. [...] This is genuinely a very substantial shipbuilding program," Ruksha said at the first Hydrographic Conference on Tuesday.

The Rosatom department estimates that ten universal vessels need to be built by 2030 for delivering goods to communities in northern Russia.

Ruksha's presentation also said that 15 bulk carriers will need to be built for Aeon Corporation's Northern Star coal project, and three bulk carriers will be needed for KAZ Minerals' Baimskaya copper mining project.
