Russia is fully self-sufficient in domestically produced poultry meat supplies - AgMin

MOSCOW. June 27 (Interfax) - Russia is fully self-sufficient when it comes to domestically produced poultry meat, Deputy Agriculture Minister Andrei Razin said at a poultry farming conference.

"Poultry farming occupies a leading position among all livestock sub-sectors. The share of poultry in total meat production is 43.5%. Last year, in farms of all categories, volume exceeded 7 million tonnes in live weight, an increase of 4.3%. We are still seeing a positive trend," Razin said, as cited by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Egg production is also stable, Razin said.

One of the priority tasks for the industry is to provide broiler poultry farms with hatching eggs. Many enterprises build second-order hatcheries, and compensation of direct costs is provided for these purposes, he said.

As a result, in 2022, imports of hatching eggs decreased 41.2%, and by another 40% this year. Self-sufficiency at the end of the year is expected to reach near 92%.
