Ukraine starts adaptation to European classification of goods

MOSCOW. June 26 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government has amended the regulations on keeping the Ukrainian Classification of Goods for Foreign Economic Activity (UCGFEA) in order to integrate in it provisions of the EU classification of goods in line with the Combined Nomenclature, Ukrainian media reported citing the Ukrainian Finance Ministry.

The decision is formalized through issuing a government directive amending the regulations on keeping the UCGFEA, which was drawn up by the Finance Ministry.

"This would help customs agencies to uniformly apply all of the rules for classifying goods in making decisions on classifying goods in line with the UCGFEA and decisions on mandatory information concerning classification of goods," the ministry said.

The government instructed the State Customs Service to publish a list of the effective decisions on classifying goods in line with the EU Combined Nomenclature provided for in relevant EU legal acts as of the date when this directive was adopted, as long as such decisions do not run counter to the provisions of the International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System, and update it at least once every quarter.

The State Customs Service has also been told to prepare and publish information on the conformity of codes of goods indicated in the relevant EU legal acts with the codes of the current edition of the UCGFEA goods nomenclature and update the relevant software.
