Ukraine's Energoatom continues import substitution program

MOSCOW. June 23 (Interfax) - Energoatom, which operates all of Ukraine's nuclear power plants, it developing its own production as part of ongoing measures to replace products that the company previously received from Russia.

"Energoatom has purchased several highly important machines for its standalone unit, Atomenergomash, in order to produce in Ukraine nodes and components of safety system equipment that used to be supplied by Russia," Ukrainian media said, citing the company's statement.

After procuring necessary equipment, Energoatom will develop its own production at Atomenergomash of spare parts that are in short supply, Energoatom said. A cylinder inner surface honing machine has already been delivered to the enterprise. Its assembly, commissioning and start-up have been completed in the past few days. A spring winding machine has also been delivered. The enterprise will receive two more pieces of equipment before the end of the year.

"The available capacities are already producing 18 types of components. When all equipment is installed at the enterprise, it will be able to manufacture 41 different types of components and nodes needed to maintain the safety of power units at Ukraine's nuclear power plants," Atomenergomash general director Grigory Gorodner said.

The enterprise is expected to reach its full capacity in the first quarter of 2024, Gorodner said.
