Kazatomprom announces appointment of new COO

ASTANA. June 23 (Interfax) - Kuanysh Omarbekov has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of KAP Kazatomprom effective starting June 23 2023.

The duties of the new COO include coordination and control of the activities of the company and its subsidiaries on issues of geological exploration, subsoil use, mining and preparatory work, uranium mining and processing, and production asset management, the company's press service said.

Over the years, Omarbekov held senior positions in subsidiaries of Kazatomprom, including head of KAP Logistics. Prior to his current appointment, he was the general director of Akbastau, a joint venture between KAP and Rosatom.

Yerzhan Mukanov, who was appointed chairman of the board in September last year, previously held the COO position, the press service told Interfax. After that, COO duties were performed by Aliya Akzholova, Managing Director for Production.

Kazatomprom is Kazakhstan's national operator for the export of uranium and its compounds, rare metals, nuclear fuel for nuclear power stations and special equipment. It is managed by the Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund.
