Ukrainian Railways plans to expand capacity at Izmail rail station

MOSCOW. June 22 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Railways is considering the possibility of improving the capacity of the Izmail rail station in the directions towards Artsiz and Belgorod-Dnestrovsky, deputy director for logistics and ferry operations of Odessa Railways, the Ukrainian Railways regional branch, Ivan Yemets said at a meeting with representatives of the agrarian market on Thursday.

The participants of the meeting have discussed a higher number of rolling stock piling up at the Izmail rail station, where more than 2,000 carriages arrive every day, the Ukrainian media reported. The average daily unloading rate is about 100 carriages, which results in queues.

Representatives of the agrarian market said that the railroad at the Izmail station should be developed and the situation with handling of cargoes should be improved.

The representative of the Odessa railroad branch said that along with the expansion of the capacity of the Izmail railway station Ukrainian Railways intends to electrify the Belgorod-Dnestrovsky-Izmail railroad section. These works are to begin in 2023.
