Armenia announces consensus with Azerbaijan on rail service resumption

YEREVAN. June 21 (Interfax) - Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan has announced consensus with Azerbaijan on rail service resumption.

"I believe we have a final consensus on the resumption of rail service between Yeraskh (Armenia), Julfa (Nakhchivan), Meghri (Armenia) and Horadiz (Azerbaijan)," Grigoryan told reporters on Wednesday.

The line will connect western Azerbaijan to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic across southern Armenia and will go up north to Armenia's Ararat region.

Deputy prime ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia met in Moscow on June 2. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said after the meeting, "considerable progress was made in coordinating modalities of the unblocking of transport communications between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia."

"In particular, a common understanding on the implementation of specific steps to restore and organize railroad traffic on the Yeraskh-Julfa-Meghri-Horadiz route was reached," he said.
