Kiev pins hopes on Ukraine Recovery Conference in London

MOSCOW. June 20 (Interfax) - A number of important agreements, memorandums, and declarations are to be signed at the upcoming Ukraine Recovery Conference in London, which should accelerate the country's reconstruction and development, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said.

"The conference in London is a continuation of our movement toward our major recovery, which we started in Lugano a year ago. Our goal is to mobilize as much of international support as possible and arrange mechanisms through which this assistance comes timely and regularly," Ukrainian media reported Shmygal as saying at a government meeting on Monday.

"Based on the London conference results, we expect a number of important agreements, memorandums, and declarations to be signed, which will accelerate our reconstruction and development," he said.

The Ukrainian authorities will focus on three key aspects at the London conference, namely speedy reconstruction, the encouragement of private investment, and regional development, he said.

"The energy sector, critical and social infrastructure, especially housing reconstruction - we need to mobilize resources essential for reconstruction. The conference will include a meeting of the Multi-Agency Donor Coordination Platform for Ukraine, or so-called financial Ramstein. We look forward to efficient solutions," he said.

At the conference, the Ukrainian government will present the most promising areas for investment and will make an important step forward to insuring military-political risks of investors, he said.

"We are seeking to intensify horizontal ties between Ukrainian communities and international partners for implementing reconstruction projects. Over 200 projects have already been started, and we want to see much more of them," Shmygal said.
