Polish gardeners demand imports of Ukrainian strawberries be halted

MOSCOW. June 19 (Interfax) - The Polish Association of Gardeners has asked Agriculture Minister Robert Telus to take urgent measures to stop the import of strawberries from Ukraine, limit it and subsequently halt it completely, the Ukrainian media reported, citing the Polish publication sad24.pl.

"With regard to the information that appeared in recent days on the import of large quantities of industrial strawberries from Ukraine to Poland, we asked the minister of agriculture and rural development to intervene and take urgent measures to halt the possible practice and finally put a stop to its reduction," the association said.

Polish gardeners insist on preventing a situation on the market similar to that of Ukrainian grains, when uncontrolled imports made the market collapse and caused a drop in prices.

The Polish Association of Gardeners insists on introducing a system of official quality control of each batch of fruit delivered to the country. In addition, there is a demand to suspend further sale of the product until the outcome of the inspection is obtained.
