Isolated cases of infectious diseases recorded in flooded areas in Ukraine - chief public health official

MOSCOW. June 16 (Interfax) - Isolated cases of infectious diseases have been recorded in the areas flooded in the wake of the Kakhovka Hydropower Plant dam burst, Ukrainian media report citing Ukrainian Deputy Health Minister and Chief Public Health Official Igor Kuzin.

Five patients with infectious diseases have been hospitalized in the flood-stricken areas since the moment of the disaster, he said.

This low number of infections is due to properly organized access of the population to pure drinking water and the fact that "the population in the flooded areas has been provided with water purification tablets," Kuzin said.

Another factor is low population density in said areas and the fact that a number of people have left their homes because of the crisis, he said.
