Over 9,000 customers in Kharkov region cut off from power supply - Ukrainian Energy Ministry

MOSCOW. June 15 (Interfax) - Damage caused to power distribution grids in the Kharkov region left over 9,000 customers without electricity as of June 15, Ukrainian media have reported with reference to the Energy Ministry.

Power supply infrastructure has also been damaged in the Sumy region and part of the Donetsk region controlled by Kiev.

Power engineers managed to restore electricity to over 1,400 customers, who were cut off from power supply because of the flood in the Kherson and Nikolayev regions, the ministry said.

Power supply has been cut off completely to one and partially to seven settlements affected by the floods in the Nikolayev region. Over 14,000 customers have no electricity in the city of Kherson, and outages have also been reported in the Chernigov region.

"Electricity has been restored to nearly 5,000 customers over the past 24 hours," it said.

The Kakhovka Hydropower Plant disaster prompting the discharge of water from the Kakhovka Reservoir has reduced hydropower generation, and the operations of the Dnieper HPP 1 and 2 have been limited. The other plants of the Dnieper Cascade are operating as planned, it said.

As one of the 1,000 MW nuclear power units resumed power generation on June 14, nuclear power plants have produced nearly half of all electricity in Ukraine over the past 24 hours, and the power system currently has enough capacity reserve.

"Commercial electricity imports over the past 24 hours have amounted to 345 MWh, and no electricity was exported," it said.
