Russian-Algerian space cooperation agreement to promote joint projects - Roscosmos

MOSCOW. June 15 (Interfax) - The Russian-Algerian agreement on cooperation in space exploration might evolve toward the practical implementation of joint space projects, Russia's Roscosmos space corporation said on Thursday.

"The signing of the agreement will promote a quicker transition toward the practical implementation of Russian-Algerian interaction in the exploration and development of outer space in all areas of mutual interest," it said.

The agreement is of framework nature and outlines key terms of bilateral relations in the field of space activities by regulating procedures for protecting intellectual property, exchanging information, exercising export control, performing customs operations, safeguarding exported property, handling various types of information, protecting technologies, and other conditions of joint activity, it said.

"In line with the agreement's provisions, its implementation shall be assigned to Roscosmos and the Algerian Space Agency," it said.

Russia and Algeria signed the agreement on peaceful space exploration during Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's visit to Russia on Thursday. The document was signed by Roscosmos CEO Yury Borisov and Algerian Ambassador to Russia Smail Benamara.

Borisov said on April 26 that Algeria, Myanmar, Vietnam, Egypt, and South Africa were drawing up contracts with Russia on launching satellites to be customized to their orders.
