No pathogens found in water sampled in Kherson region - Rospotrebnadzor

MOSCOW. June 13 (Interfax) - The people living in the Kherson region hit by flooding after the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydropower Plant have been advised to drink bottled water, meanwhile, tests carried out on potable water, seawater and water from the local distribution network and canal have revealed no pathogens, Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said.

"In all, 105 samples of potable water have been taken from the distribution network of the populated areas in the Kherson region since June 7. In addition, water and seawater from the North Crimean Canal are being tested on the subject of deviation from normal levels. No pathogens have been detected," Rospotrebnadzor told reporters.

People are advised to use bottled or boiled water for drinking and cooking, and to wash hands thoroughly, it said. Before consuming raw fruit and vegetables, they should also be washed with bottled or boiled water, and they should be doused with boiling water, it added.

Regional authorities have organized bottled-water deliveries, decontamination measures are in place.
