Novatek patents own LNG liquefaction technology with line capacity of 6 mln tonnes per year

MOSCOW. June 13 (Interfax) - Novatek has obtained a Russian patent for its own large-capacity technology for mixed-refrigerant natural gas liquefaction, "Arctic Mix", the company said in a statement.

The LNG technology has been developed in order to implement Novatek's large-capacity projects based on gravity-type framework with one technological line having capacity of over six million tonnes of LNG per year.

"The use of mixed refrigerants expands the area of technology use, increases the energy efficiency of the technological process, and reduces the amount of equipment used. The development is an important step in localizing liquefaction lines, and is in line with the company's strategic goal of developing LNG technologies in Russia," Novatek said in a press release.

Novatek CEO Leonid Mikhelson previously announced plans to implement the Murmansk LNG project with three lines of 6.8 million tonnes per year, two of which are scheduled for commissioning in 2027 and 2029, respectively.

Novatek has patented its own liquefaction technology, "Arctic Cascade", with capacity of 900,000 tonnes per year, and the plant was built as part of Yamal LNG; as well as the large-capacity liquefaction technology "Arctic Cascade Modified" with a production line of three million tonnes per year.
