Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia sign roadmap for 1GW wind farm, agreement in energy sector

ASTANA. June 13 (Interfax) - The Kazakh Ministry of Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding in the energy sector with Saudi Arabia the Kazakh ministry said.

Kazakh Ministry of Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev met with Saudi Arabia's energy minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud in Riyadh on June 12.

"During the visit, the Kazakh Energy Ministry and the Ministry of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia signed an agreement on cooperation in the energy sector, including oil and gas, electricity, clean hydrogen, RES, digital solutions, cybersecurity, collaboration between energy companies and other sector-related issues," the ministry said on Tuesday.

The Kazakh delegation and ACWA Power Company signed a roadmap for the construction of a 1GW wind farm in Kazakhstan, which was preliminary agreed upon within the framework of the Astana International Forum.

The ministry said the memorandum with ACWA Power Company was signed in July 2022, and an agreement on the principles for implementing joint projects in March 2023.

ACWA Power is a developer, investor, co-owner, and operator of a portfolio of power generation, renewable energy, and desalinated water production plants. The company's energy portfolio includes 77 assets in 12 countries, including efficient combined cycle power plants, solar and concentrated solar power systems, and geothermal, wind, and waste-to-energy facilities.
