Gas extraction, transmission facilities, power line damaged in Ukraine - Energy Ministry

MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) - Two gas extraction facilities, a gas transmission system element and a power transmission line are damaged in Ukraine as of June 9, the Ukrainian media said with the reference to the Ukrainian Energy Ministry.

Damage to two gas extraction facilities and a power transmission line has been recorded in the Zhitomir region. A facility of Transmission System Operator of Ukraine is damaged in the Kiev-controlled part of the Zaporozhye region. There is damage in the Kharkov region, as well, the ministry said.

There is a partial power outage in the Sumy, Kharkov and Chernigov regions. Technological failures have led to power outages in the Kiev, Odessa and Chernovtsy regions.

A total of 158 transformer substations are out of power in the Kiev-controlled part of the Kherson region, alongside 49 in the Nikolayev region, following the Kakhovka Hydropower Plant incident. Meanwhile in Kherson, water levels are slowly decreasing. Water fell to 5.3 meters by 8 a.m. on Friday morning, from the highest level of 5.68 meters.

"Energy companies are making repairs wherever they can. Power supply resumed to over 2,000 households in Kherson and the region in the morning. Over 16,000 households are still having a power outage because of the flood," the ministry said.

The water level in the cooling pond of the Krivoy Rog thermal power plant remains sufficient for now. Ministry experts believe it will last from ten to 12 months.

"However, the future drop in water levels may require filling the pond to ensure smooth operation of the plant," it said.
