U.S. to give financial, humanitarian assistance to Ukraine in wake of Kakhovka HPP incident

MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) - The United States will provide $608,000 as financial assistance to over 1,000 households in addition to humanitarian aid to victims of the Kakhovka Hydropower Plant incident through the USAID program, the Ukrainian media said, citing the USAID press service.

"There will be financial assistance: 22,500,000 hryvni (approximately $608,000) of financial assistance will be given to over 1,000 flood-stricken households. Every household in the flood zone will be paid 2,200 hryvni ($60) per member for the next three months, but no more than five members per household will qualify for compensation," the report said.

In addition, USAID will help timely payment of salaries to over 57,000 officers of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine through direct budgetary assistance to the Ukrainian government.

The report says that USAID assists the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and other response agencies in the procurement and delivery of water cleaning equipment, pumps, rescue hardware, boats and boat engines.

It also helps supply drinking water, hot food and fuel.
