Kazakhstan starts shipping wheat to China

ASTANA. June 8 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan has shipped its first wheat under an export agreement with China, Kazakh Agriculture Minister Yerbol Karashukeyev told Interfax.

"Shipping has already begun," Karashukeyev said, when asked whether wheat exports to China had started.

He confirmed that a contract to export 1 million tonnes of wheat to China had been signed. "We will be shipping wheat from this marketing year's harvest for now," the minister said.

Karashukeyev said earlier that Kazakhstan expected to export 1 million tonnes of wheat to China and to increase exports in the future.

The export of Kazakh wheat to China was suspended in 2021 due to coronavirus restrictions.

The Kazakh Agriculture Ministry has set an export target for grain and flour at 9-9.5 million tonnes in the 2022/2023 marketing year,
