Sea pollution with oil products observed in Odessa area - city council

MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax) - An oil spill has been observed in the area of Odessa's Otrada beach in the Black Sea, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the Odessa City Council's press service.

"A typical oil slick of an unidentified size can be visually observed on the sea surface," it said.

Officers from the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southwestern District (the Nikolayev and the Odessa regions) collected samples of sea water at the site of pollution to carry out laboratory tests.

"At present, employees of the State Environmental Inspectorate, the Environment and Natural Resources Department, and the Environment and Recreational Areas Development Department at the regional administration are working together to determine the degree and sources of pollution and duly inform law enforcement agencies," it said.
