Armenia is not Russia's ally in conflict with Ukraine - Pashinyan

YEREVAN. June 2 (Interfax) - Armenia is not Russia's ally in its conflict with Ukraine, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan made the statement in an interview to the CNN Prima News TV channel while on an official visit to the Czech Republic on May 4-5. However, the Armenian government released a report quoting his remarks only now.

"Indeed, this has never been said publicly, but I think it is obvious. We are not Russia's ally in the conflict with Ukraine. And our feeling from this conflict is anxiety, because this immediately affects all of our relations," Pashinyan said.

The West perceives Armenia "as Russia's ally," while "Russia sees that we are not their ally in the conflict with Ukraine. Then it appears that we are no one's ally in this situation," he said.

Pashinyan admitted that this leaves Armenia in a vulnerable position. "This means that we are vulnerable," Pashinyan said.

"The truth is, the more complicated the situation, the less room there is for maneuver," he said.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow is taking the stance of Armenia, which says it does not side with Russia in the Ukraine conflict, into consideration.

"We take this into consideration, this is an important statement. We are aware of the existence of certain nuances in Armenia's approach to the Ukraine conflict. We are taking them into consideration, and we know about them," Peskov told reporters on Friday.

"Of course, we continue to develop our conceptually allied relations with Armenia," Peskov said.
