Georgia deserves EU candidate status - PM

TBILISI. June 1 (Interfax) - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has said he will assure European leaders of Georgia's readiness for EU candidate status.

"Georgia deserves EU candidate status. It would be the right decision to make for our European partners," Garibashvili told reporters.

He is taking part in a summit of the European Political Community in Chisinau.

"Unfortunately, we are not a member of NATO and do not have an umbrella of security and guarantees, so correct decisions made by our government have paramount importance for protecting and defending our country in this unpredictable environment. We need to take care of our people's security," Garibashvili said.

He noted that Georgia's peaceful policy aims to unite the country.
