German Agriculture Ministry to allot 5 mln euros for horticulture development in Ukraine

MOSCOW. May 31 (Interfax) - Germany's Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) will provide 5 million euros for the German-Ukrainian project on the development of Ukraine's horticulture sector, Ukrainian media said, citing the German Embassy in Kiev.

The relevant note of intent was signed by Frank Mueller, agricultural attache at the German Embassy, and the deputy ministers of the Ukrainian partner ministries, namely, Markiyan Dmitrasevich from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food and Andrei Vitrenko of the Ministry of Education and Science.

"With financing totaling 5 million euros this project is the largest for BMEL," the German embassy said, adding that Ukraine is now "the main country" for BMEL as part of its bilateral cooperation.

"The goal of the new project is the sustainable development of horticulture in Ukraine. The project makes a considerable contribution to Ukraine's self-sufficiency for food and creation of jobs in rural areas by its targeted support to the vocational training system and the workshop system, production conditions and storage facilities, as well as startups in the horticulture sector," the embassy said.

According to the embassy, the allocated funds would also be directed to support the recovery of the critical agricultural infrastructure and the creation of value chains horticulture sector.

The implementation of the project will begin in the Vinnitsa region.
