EU imposes sanctions on four Moldovan citizens, one Russian

BRUSSELS. May 30 (Interfax) - The Council of the European Union adopted a regulation on Tuesday imposing restrictive measures on five individuals "in view of actions destabilizing the Republic of Moldova," the corresponding document was published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Four Moldovan citizens were subject to sanctions: Shor party head Ilan Shor, the deputy head of the same party, Maria Tauber, the former leader of the Democratic Party, oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc, and the co-chairman of the Building Europe at Home Party, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc.

The fifth designated individual is Russian businessman Igor Chaika, accused by Brussels of being "responsible for funneling money in support of the [...] projects aimed at destabilizing the Republic of Moldova."

"This decision shall enter into force on the date of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union," the regulation said.
