Ukraine, Portugal sign memorandum to promote cooperation in social policy

MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Social Policy Minister Oksana Zholnovich and Portuguese Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security Ana Mendes Godinho have signed an intergovernmental memorandum of mutual understanding to promote cooperation in social policy.

"The memorandum stipulates an exchange of knowledge and practices in social protection of disadvantaged groups of population, social assistance to such groups, early intervention guidance, and the social system reform in general," the Ukrainian media quoted the press service for the Ukrainian Social Policy Ministry as saying.

The sides also discussed social support for children and disabled persons.

"We are working in practically each of those areas, which makes the experience of Portugal really useful to us. First of all, we are interested in early intervention programs. We seek to build a system of quality training of multidisciplinary teams in Ukraine, which will operate in those areas and scale up their operations in all regions. Supervision by Portuguese specialists is of interest to us in this context," Zholnovich said.
